Brief Synopsis
This biography of Vincent van Gogh explores the short but creative life of one
of the world’s most famous artists. Throughout his life, Vincent struggled with a lot of personal and relationship anguish and, despite a hugely productive period of artistic creativity and output, he never received any recognition of his talents while he was alive. This biography looks at the motivations that maintained his total commitment to his art works and the key figures in his personal life.

Paintings gave him a way to express all the things that were deep within him. He explained it this way:
“Paintings have a life of their own that come from the painter’s soul.”
A love of painting was now burning inside him, like a fre, but other people
didn’t seem able to see his talent; nobody was interested in buying his paintings.
Later, thinking about this, Vincent would write that:
“There may be a great fire in our hearts, yet no one ever comes to warm
himself at it, and the passers-by see only a wisp of smoke.”
Van Gogh became so obsessed with his paintings that he did not eat or sleep
properly. He became unwell and weak, and began to behave in strange ways. He
wrote that:
“I put my heart and my soul into my work, and have lost my mind…”
